How to Apply

The Newsroom Modernization Project application is open April 9–30 to local news organizations serving communities in western Iowa—including newspapers, digital-only outlets, startups, and other community-based news providers.


We’re looking for newsrooms that:

  • Serve a defined local community in western Iowa 

  • Demonstrate a commitment to producing reliable, community-centered news and information 

  • Are ready to strengthen their digital presence and explore new revenue strategies 

  • Are willing to actively participate in training and implementation over the 12-month program 

Download and complete the application form and email it to director@westerniowajournalismfoundation.com by April 30. 

Four newsrooms will be selected for the first cohort, with potential to expand as additional funding becomes available.
